The struggle is real. We’re in a global pandemic, we’ve experienced a contentious election cycle, and are continuously witnessing injustice and inequity unfold before us every day on our smartphones. It can feel daunting and overwhelming and many parents are struggling to find answers and solutions that work during these unprecedented times.
Recently I contributed to a Harvard Business Review advice column on parenting during COVID-19. Check out Your Questions About Work, Caregiving, and COVID-19, Answered. I think it's beautifully written and the experts' advice meld together for a perfect pick-me-up.
Lately, I’ve been thinking more and more about how parents in this era are literally winging it every day, much more than their own parents or grandparents had to. There is no manual for these times. NO MANUAL. And we could all use some relief and great advice… But more and more I’m realizing that parents are experts, we just need the encouragement (and the confidence) to pull out the wisdom that is living deep within. We can do this ya’ll!
This fall, I’m excited to participate in Parenting in Place 8-Week Masterclass Series, a live masterclass series for parents, offered by a collective of some of today’s most prominent thought leaders in parenting, neuroscience, and well-being. The eight-session event will feature interactive masterclasses (hosted on Zoom), each on a different theme, and each led by two or three experts. Rather than straight presentations, the 75-minute long live events will have an accessible, “in conversation with” vibe—attendees will feel like they’re sitting in on a coffee date among friends, and they’ll have the opportunity to ask the hosts questions and communicate with other attendees through chat. Register here.
My session on screen time and social media kicks off the series with Devorah Heitner, PhD of Raising Digital Natives. The event runs from Tuesday, November 17th through January 19th at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT (skipping the December holidays). Individual registration is $39 for the whole series, with a portion of the proceeds donated to charities that support children, families and communities.
